A Prayer for Discernment

To make it make sense what we need is discernment.  Discernment can be described as insight into the true nature of things; it is seeing beyond the surface.  And how do we get discernment?  It comes from God. Proverbs 2:3-9

A prayer for Fathers

All-Mighty God our Creator and Sustainer.  Our Savior and our Lord.  You have appointed a day through earthly authorities to give honor to those who serve as fathers to your human daughters and sons.  And with awe and reverence for your heavenly example, we ask for your continued blessing upon these fragile souls....and we plead with You, Oh God, to do the following:

Are You Sure?

This past weekend I attended my 40 year high school class reunion, joined by 3 dozen former classmates.  We had a great time hanging out, reminiscing and catching up.  But there was one brief element that was difficult.  I was given the dreadful honor of leading a brief memorial for classmates who have passed away.  … Continue reading Are You Sure?

GROW UP!

The Plague of Adult Immaturity When I was a child, I used to speak like a child, think like a child, reason like a child; when I became a man, I did away with childish things. 1 Cor 13:11 I read an article the other day in the Wall Street Journal in which the author … Continue reading GROW UP!

The Journey – Intentional Christianity

A young man named Andre went to church one Sunday and sat in the last row.  Things hadn’t been going well for him since his grandmother passed away a few weeks earlier.  After the choir sang a song, the preacher started talking, and Andre listened.  Before long something strange began to happen.  It seemed like … Continue reading The Journey – Intentional Christianity

Micki will STOP THE VIOLENCE!

Today I watched my youngest child graduate from a teacher residency program in Chicago (AUSL) and, I hate to admit it, but I had mixed emotions. I have no doubt that she is being led by God in this direction and I’m thankful that at 23 years old she has such drive and purpose. On … Continue reading Micki will STOP THE VIOLENCE!
